The burial mounds of the Woodland people are in eastern South Dakota. Burial mounds can be fifty feet long and four or five feet wide. Often many mounds are together in one place. A large group is near Brandon. They are called the Eminija Mounds. Time and weather and human activity have worn them down. Archaeologists know little about the Woodland people. Their mounds tell that they had strong spiritual beliefs and a strong society. They were able to plan and build these mounds.
