The Ponca Indians lived in earth lodges near the Missouri River in southern South Dakota. They hunted buffalo and fished. They also farmed. They grew squash, corn, and beans. The Poncas traded with other Indian tribes and with Europeans and Americans. The Lakota Indians pushed the Poncas into Nebraska when they moved west.
