William Clark

William Clark was a red-headed boy from Virginia. His birthday was August 1, 1770. He met Meriwether Lewis in the army. They became good friends. Lewis chose Clark to share his job as captain of the Corps of Discovery. Clark kept the records of the expedition. The maps he drew were especially important. Afterwards, the president gave Clark the job of being the official friend of the Indian nations west of the Mississippi River. The Indians called Saint Louis "Red Head’s Town" because Clark lived there.
