Arikaras
The Arikaras were a farming tribe. They lived close to the present North Dakota-South Dakota border. They lived in earth lodges, or mounds, like the one in the picture. The Tetons forced the Arikaras to trade their crops at low prices. The Arikaras welcomed Lewis and Clark. They hoped that trade with the United States would break the Teton monopoly. |
