     The Corps of Discovery made camp on the south side of the Columbia River on December 7. They built the fort of logs. It was 50 feet square. The men moved into it on Christmas Day. The winter was cold and dreary. On March 23, 1806, the men left the fort behind and started for Saint Louis.
