Sacagawea

Sacagawea was a Shoshone captive living near a Mandan village. Her name means Bird Woman. She was married to a fur trader. She and her family joined the Lewis and Clark expedition. That summer, they met the Shoshone Indians in present-day Idaho. Sacagawea’s brother was a chief.  A statue of her can be found in Bismarck, North Dakota.
