Yanktons

The expedition met with a group of Yankton Indians, or Nakotas, near today’s Gavin’s Point Dam. The date was August 30, 1804. The Yanktons were hunters and traders. The warriors were decorated with paint. They wore porcupine quills and feathers. They wore large leggings and moccasins. Their buffalo robes were of different colors.
