Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader and holy man. The Sioux (Lakota) tribes joined together under him. He was a key leader in their struggle to keep their land. Sitting Bull first went to battle at age fourteen. He was known for his bravery and insight. Sitting Bull was one of the leaders in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. He and his people went to Canada after the battle. They stayed there until 1881. Then they came back to live on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Sitting Bull toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Sitting Bull died in 1890. |
