Kristi Noem is governor of South Dakota today. She grew up on a farm and ranch in Hamlin County and took over its operation after a family tragedy. She is also a small business owner. Kristi Noem was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2006. In 2010 she became South Dakota’s representative in the United States Congress. During her time in Washington, D.C., she worked on laws dealing with farming and taxes. She is South Dakota’s first woman governor. Her term will be over in 2022.
