Old and New Pollock

The town of Pollock began in 1901. It was a railroad town. When the Army Corps of Engineers built a dam on the Missouri River at Pierre, Pollock had to move or be flooded. The citizens decided to move the town south of its original site. The dam flooded the old site and created Lake Oahe. Most Pollock citizens built new homes and businesses, but a few moved their buildings to the new site. The photograph shows the old and new towns of Pollock. The year was 1961.
